About Fred Nette

A Rider, A Friend, A Father

During an open riding session on Saturday, August 19, 2017, Fred Nette - owner of the legendary “Fred Bud” - was seriously injured following a startling crash while riding his motorcycle. He was immediately transported by ambulance to the ER at the local hospital. However, due to the severity of his injuries, he had to be transported by helicopter to a Level 1 Trauma Center.

The emergency medical staff determined that Fred had experienced multiple fractures of the cervical spine (neck) with involvement of the spinal cord, as well as partially collapsed lungs, and a lacerated liver. Saturday night while in the ICU trauma unit, Fred was placed in cervical traction to realign the displaced vertebrae and relieve pressure on the spinal cord. The following Sunday morning, Fred underwent successful surgery on his spine to stabilize the remaining vertebral fractures.

Currently, Fred remains in the ICU as he recovers from surgery and prepares to be transferred to a rehabilitation unit. At this moment Fred is still experiencing paralysis affecting his fingers and lower extremities. Although, based on the surgeons encouraging news - related to the condition of the spinal cord and Fred’s unmistakable determination to overcome challenging situations - the prognosis for recovery is hopeful.

Fred has been shown great support from his family and friends, led by his daughter Kristina who has been with him throughout these initial challenging days. Overall, Fred is in good spirits and is ready to take on the challenges in front of him while on his road to recovery.

Fred is generally a private man when it comes to personal matters such as this, but in this instance, the road to recovery which lies ahead of him will not only be physically and emotionally challenging but financially challenging as well. Family and friends are doing their best to support Fred both emotionally and financially but, unfortunately, the financial burden on the family can be momentous when a significant medical event such as this occurs. It is for this reason that I humbly ask you to please support Fred in any form - whether monetary or an extra prayer - so that he may continue his road to recovery. All funds will be used to assist Fred in covering his current and growing medical expenses.

Fred has been a consistent figure in the motocross community for the past 4 decades; always the first to help and/or support a fallen rider. Now is a great opportunity for the motocross community and well-wishers alike to show their solidarity and support for Fred as he picks himself up and attempts to finish this race strong like he always has.

Thank you in advance for your generosity, support, love, and prayers.
